Despite being one of those unlucky enough to have to take their test at Basildon (see previous article), Gina decided to go ahead. She passed with 8 minors in a town she had never driven around before!
Gina is likely to be my one and only foray to Basildon!
Due to a mix up between tenant and the landlord, examiners found themselves unexpectedly locked out of the test centre on Wednesday. The gates were padlocked with a notice pinned to the gate saying the centre was closed. Apparently, no rent had been paid by the DVSA for 6 months! Not to be deterred, the examiners set up a make-shift base across the road and all but the first 5 tests went out as planned. Well played!
For Thursday and today, all Chelmsford test were moved to Basildon, with candidates receiving an email telling them of the last minute change of plan. Not ideal, but it was either that or postpone the test.
Stop press…..Tests will resume at Chelmsford from Monday 22nd.
January has seen the loss of many famous faces. Some childhood favourites like Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart, the DJ that brought us Junior Choice in the 70s and 80s, and who had become a firm favourite on Christmas morning over the last few years. Singers like Lemmy from Motorhead, Glenn Frey from The Eagles and of course the legendary David Bowie. Perhaps the saddest for me was the recent loss of broadcaster Terry Wogan. A much loved personality who will be sadly missed. I thank them all for being part of my life.
