Annual General Meeting – Cancelled
The Annual General Meeting of Aberdeen Canine Training Society will be held on 29th April 2020, at 7.30 pm is now cancelled in line with current government advice.
We are a Kennel Club registered dog training club and non-profit organisation which was founded in 1952
ACTS is run by our members for our members.
We train using positive methods, praise, treats and play, and meet on a Wednesday evening at Hillview Community Church, Hillview Road, Aberdeen.
Training Offered
We run Puppy Training courses throughout the year where puppies and their owners learn how to interact appropriately with people and other dogs while learning basic obedience and building a strong bond with each other.
Starters class is for dogs over six months old. Older puppies can jump straight into this class if they missed out on the puppy course.
Starters Class teaches basic obedience exercises to the maturing young dogs. They learn to recall, to listen attentively with distractions, to settle and be calm when necessary, to enjoy being handled and groomed, to walk nicely on the lead– all important life skills for dogs.
On completion of this class dogs will be able to take their Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze Award
After they have passed their Bronze Test dogs move into our Intermediate class where they will consolidate what they have learned and hopefully continue their GCDS journey working through Silver and Gold Levels.
The next level is into our Competitive Obedience and Rally Class where you will join the remainder of our club members.
The video below shows the exercises required for obedience competition.
Many of us train our dogs to competitive level and compete in Obedience, Agility, Rally O, and Working Trials. The basic skills taught in our early classes are essential before a dog is ready to advance into dog sport.
ACTS runs a 2 day Open Obedience Show every year where judges and competitors from all over Scotland and sometimes further afield come along to take part.
At the show we hold a heat of The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Special Prebeginner Stake which is for new people to Obedience. Dogs must have passed their Bronze Award to enter and you and your dog could qualify for the Finals at Crufts . Several of our members have qualified to go to those finals over the years.
Our Club Members have also represented Scotland in the Inter-Regional Obedience Competition at Crufts .
We hold a heat for the Scottish Kennel Club Beginners Competition early in the year where handlers qualify for the final at Ingliston in May.
Although our club focus is on Obedience and Rally O , the foundation lessons we provide are also a solid base for , agility, working trials, and newer activities such as hoopers.
